The Principals

Dr. Aisha Romain is a certified specialist in Paediatric Dentistry. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Paediatric Dentistry and a fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada.

Dr. Romain obtained her Doctor of Dental Surgery at the Howard University College of Dentistry, Washington, DC, in 2005. She then pursued her Paediatric Dental Specialty training at the Eastman Institute of Oral Health, University of Rochester Medical Centre, in New York where she trained under Dr. Robert Berkowitz.

Dr. Romain became a fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada in 2008. In 2012 she opened her practice on Danforth Avenue in Toronto – Danforth Children’s Dentistry with her colleague Dr Sonia Chung. Dr. Romain is an Instructor of Clinical Dentistry in the Graduate Paediatric Dental Department at The University of Toronto Faculty of Dentistry and serves as an examiner in the specialty of Paediatric Dentistry for the Royal College of Dentists of Canada.

Dr Romain is active staff at the Michael Garron Hospital and is the current Division Head of the Department of Dentistry. Dr. Romain is passionate about the patients she serves and is committed to providing exceptional care to all children. Dr Romain has interests in oral health equity and improving access to dental care for all children.

Dr. Sonia Sun-He Chung is a certified specialist in paediatric dentistry and a
fellow of the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Canada.

Dr. Chung graduated from the University of Toronto with her Honours Bachelor of Science degree in 2001 and her Honours Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 2005. After completing a general practice residency at The Hospital for Sick Children, Dr. Chung continued her studies at the University of Toronto, where she earned her Diploma in Paediatric Dentistry and a Master of Science about the prioritization and wait times for paediatric dental surgeries at SickKids.

In 2010, she completed a dental fellowship at the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne, Australia. Dr. Chung then joined the staff of SickKids Dentistry in 2011, focusing on the management of medically compromised patients, dental emergencies, and the training of dental residents. She is also an examiner in paediatric dentistry for The Royal College of Dentists of Canada.

In 2012, Dr. Chung opened Danforth Children’s Dentistry with her colleague, Dr. Aisha Romain, with the goal of providing personalized pediatric dental care for children in a safe and nurturing environment. Dr. Chung is passionate about connecting with her patients and their families to create a positive dental home and to provide exceptional dental care.

Our Associates

Dr. Yili Wang

Dr. Yili Wang is a board-certified paediatric dentist. She obtained her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the University of British Columbia in 2012. Her love for treating children led her to complete a residency program at The Hospital for Sick Children and subsequently her Masters degree and specialty training in paediatric dentistry at the University of Toronto. She is a fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada.

Dr. Yili focuses on using tailored behaviour guidance techniques to promote a positive dental experience for the child, and equally important, the family. She is experienced in treating kids with disabilities and is a paediatric staff dentist at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital.  She is fluent in Mandarin. Dr. Yili has taken part in numerous overseas dental outreach trips to serve underprivileged children. She has also lectured internationally on her thesis on malformed first permanent molars.

Dr. Yili lives with her husband in Oakville and greatly enjoys the vibrant and friendly community that always seems to have something new to offer. During her spare time, she loves to be active, especially outdoors, hiking or cycling. She also loves taking on art projects using various mediums and experimenting in the kitchen.

Dr. Leah Mender

Dr. Leah Mender was born and raised in London, Ontario where she also attended the University of Western Ontario as an undergraduate. She obtained her dental degree from the University of Toronto in 2016 and then completed a general practice residency at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. After that, she worked as a general dentist for two years where she primarily treated children, furthering her love for pediatric dentistry. She decided to go back to school and completed her Master of Science in Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Toronto in 2022.

Dr. Mender’s main goal is to ensure that kids have a positive experience at the dentist. When Dr. Mender isn’t practicing dentistry, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends and her dog, Herschel! She also loves to bike, eat, travel, and scuba dive!

Dr. Rebecca Cohen

Dr. Rebecca Cohen prides herself on providing outstanding dental care through her love for building a trusting and lasting bond with her patients. Her passion for children both motivated her to pursue this rewarding career and continues to push her each and
everyday.

Dr. Rebecca graduated from the University of Toronto Faculty of Dentistry in 2009. From there, Dr. Rebecca earned her specialization in Paediatric Dentistry at the University of Southern California Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry. After graduating, Dr. Rebecca practiced in California as a specialist for two years before returning home to Canada in 2013 and has been working as a pediatric specialist in private practice ever since.
Dr. Rebecca is a certified specialist in pediatric dentistry and a fellow of the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Canada and a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. Dr Rebecca also serves as an examiner in the speciality of paediatric dentistry for the Royal College of Dentists of Canada. Dr. Rebecca is a member of the Ontario Dental Association and the Canadian and American Academy of Pediatric Dentists.

Dr. Leslie Chu

Dr. Leslie Chu obtained her Honours Bachelor of Medical Sciences degree from Western University and attended New York University College of Dentistry. She was awarded the Dean’s Award for International College of Dentists Student Humanitarian Award for her significant leadership and exemplary character traits when participating in humanitarian service or projects. 
 
Dr. Chu worked as a general dentist in a pediatric practice in Toronto for several years before obtaining her specialty training in Paediatric Dentistry at the University of Rochester – Eastman Institute for Oral Health with the goal of providing compassionate care to all children.
 
She devotes her time to serving both the local and global community and is passionate about helping the underserved. She has volunteered in Mexico and Nepal as part of her global outreach program, providing high quality dental care to those in need.
 
Dr. Chu is most proud of being able to complete her specialty training and welcoming her second child, daughter. The first being her dog.
